Mount Backpackers is a 2-minute walk from the best beach in New Zealand - Mount Maunganui beach. Three minutes walk in the opposite direction will take you from our front door to the magical Pilot Bay beach, a stunning flat harbor inlet that runs along the Southwestern side of Mount Maunganui. Pilot Bay is a great place to relax and read under a secluded palm tree, play on the sand or grassy space, reflect on the magical sunset or enjoy a BBQ using the free supplied facilities. A wide open park with lots of peaceful green space is opposite our back door as we are overlooked by the ancient burial caves and sacred hill Hopukiore, known in English as Mount Drury. Mount Backpackers provides the best free high speed WIFI throughout the hostel, a free BBQ for guests to use, shared well-equipped kitchen and shared bathroom facilities. Guests can choose to stay in the cozy lively dormitory of 16-beds (excellent for groups), or the smaller dorm rooms or a private room. Surfboards and wetsuits are rented to guests at only $20 per 4 hour session and quality well-maintained safe bicycles are available for rent. But, what is the best thing about Mount Backpackers? Easy... you will arrive as a guest and leave as a friend! Our staff are the most kind hearted and helpful people in the gorgeous town of Mount Maunganui, maybe even New Zealand.
